About the role
- Lead all client, partner, and vendor contracting including enterprise SaaS, services, data, and payment-processing agreements
- Develop systems and processes balancing speed, risk, and commercial acceleration to support operational counterparts and leadership
- Personally step into high-stakes negotiations with banks, financial institutions, and enterprise clients
- Partner with People leadership and outside counsel on employment law matters, multi-state compliance, investigations, and sensitive employee issues
- Oversee protection and management of Built’s IP, including software, data rights, trademarks, and licensing terms
- Manage litigation strategy and dispute resolution in partnership with outside counsel
- Monitor regulatory developments in fintech, payments, privacy, and AI and advise leadership; represent Built with regulators and industry bodies as needed
- Oversee corporate insurance programs as part of enterprise risk management
- Oversee equity administration and board consents in partnership with People and Finance
- Own enterprise governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) including SOC 2 and similar frameworks; build privacy/data programs and client due diligence processes
- Stand up AI policies and guide payments and funds disbursement compliance
- Build and oversee enterprise risk management (ERM) practice and act as a risk advisor
- Manage corporate governance and board processes, draft Board materials, and support M&A legal due diligence and transaction readiness
- Manage external counsel across corporate, contract, and employment matters
- Oversee end-to-end procurement process and establish standardized vendor management policies
Requirements
- Prior role as a Deputy GC or #2 legal leader in a growth-stage SaaS or fintech company or comparable at a law firm
- Demonstrated ability to drive negotiations with enterprise financial institutions and win balanced outcomes
- Strong risk management mindset: able to design frameworks, not just execute checklists
- Executive presence: able to represent Built credibly in the room with client GCs, regulators, and the board
- Builder mentality: thrives in ambiguity, creates systems from scratch, and scales processes
- Leadership ability: track record of mentoring teams and collaborating across functions
- Corporate oversight: experience leading or as a key contributor to corporate/entity management, corporate governance, and/or board management
- Exposure to M&A deal execution and integration
- Proven success leading commercial contracting in SaaS, fintech, or payments (nice to have)
- Experience with AI governance, fintech regulatory structures, or data/privacy compliance (nice to have)
- Experience leading procurement (nice to have)
- Global entity management experience (nice to have)
