About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of behind-the-meter battery storage projects.
- Oversee contractor-led installations and commissioning of battery energy storage systems and associated electrical infrastructure across complex, multisite projects nationwide.
- Forecast and schedule installations with contractors based on project timelines, equipment lead times, and resource availability.
- Manage permitting, utility interconnection applications, and AHJ inspections.
- Coordinate site readiness, including electrical service evaluation, load and metering data review, structural and clearance requirements, and equipment placement.
- Develop contractor relationships and monitor performance against schedules, budgets, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
- Oversee commissioning, startup, and acceptance testing.
- Enforce electrical safety and code compliance, including NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 855.
- Collaborate with engineering, incentives, procurement, fulfillment, and install support teams.
- Identify and mitigate project risks and obstacles.
- Communicate project status, updates, and delays to stakeholders and customers.
- Manage project Bills of Materials and coordinate delivery of batteries, inverters, switchgear, and balance-of-system materials.
- Maintain inventory, serialized equipment, asset records, and project documentation, including plans, reports, change orders, commissioning records, warranty registrations, and closeout documents.
- May support solar, EV charging, lighting, and HVAC conservation projects.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in battery energy storage, solar, or electrical construction.
- Experience managing subcontractors overseeing electrical, energy storage, or construction projects.
- Working knowledge of battery energy storage systems, inverters, switchgear, metering, and utility interconnection processes.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including the NEC, NFPA 855, and UL 9540, and with local permitting and inspection processes, preferred.
- Facilities management/building engineer experience preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed, with flexible hours to align with contractor and field crew schedules.
