About the role

  • Partner with our founders to define and drive Bubble’s architectural decisions, long-term engineering strategy, and technical roadmap.
  • Lead efforts to evolve the Bubble language as the default output for AI-generated apps, launch our own powerful AI application features. Scale our hosting platform, improve the performance of user-built applications, and enhance the UX, reliability, and speed of our cloud-hosted visual editor.
  • Drive talent acquisition and retention in close collaboration with our People team.
  • Build a world-class engineering culture that prizes innovation, quality, and velocity.
  • Balance customer needs, compliance requirements, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate across departments, working with product, marketing and success.
  • Report to the Co-CEO and serve on the Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Prior VP Engineering or CTO experience at a venture-backed startup, with strong tenure
  • Experience scaling through growth phases (100–500 person companies a plus)
  • Proven track record of modernizing legacy systems and evolving technical architecture
  • Deep experience with complex technical products—especially platforms, IDEs, or developer tools
  • Operated in companies with strong engineering cultures (e.g., open-source contributions, active tech blogs, cutting-edge projects)
  • Technical aptitude to manage tradeoffs, lead through ambiguity, and learn fast
  • High-velocity, execution-oriented leadership style with a commitment to quality
  • NYC-based or willing to relocate, with the ability to contribute to our office culture and in-person collaboration
