About the role
- Undertakes system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance and ongoing support of all network infrastructure components
- Implements new and enhanced network technology for enterprise and remote site connectivity
- Maintains standards for global network infrastructure, including wireless, LAN and SD-WAN networks and connectivity
- Manages installation, testing and setup of new network hardware and software (firewalls, routers, switching, monitoring)
- Executes engineering efforts to ensure currency and supportability of networking technology
- Participates in technology lifecycle planning, roadmaps and Network Health Assessments
- Delivers documentation, knowledge transfer and training to the support organisation
- Delivers support for clients with data protection and cloud capabilities and drives core/cloud infrastructure security
- Provides support for problem escalations from the global network support organisation
- Acts as design authority for small cells and complementary RAN solutions, owner of RAN design of systems and features
- Develops and documents high level and low level RAN designs, test strategies, lab validation and deployment guidelines
- Completes regulatory and security assessments and establishes technical review meetings with vendors
- Engages with BT stakeholders to define high level mobility strategies and supports Neutral Host, RFI/RFP and vendor negotiation activities
- Provides technical support and expertise to wider BT teams including BT Business and Special Projects
Requirements
- Strong understanding and experience of 4G and 5G RAN
- Experience of RAN products and solutions
- Deep knowledge and understanding of NG-RAN / O-RAN architectures
- An analytical thinker able to undertake complex tasks, weigh the pros and cons and provide reasoned recommendations
- Knowledge of evolving industry trends
- A good understanding of the processes to develop, optimise and operate a mobile network
- Experience of Small Cells RAN products and solutions (Preferred)
- Proficient and adaptable with respect to scripting languages (Python, VBA, R, Perl) (Preferred)
- BPSS Security Clearance will be required
- Extensive experience in the mobile telecommunications industry in the role of a lead designer with business-critical, high-availability / high-throughput systems and networks (MANDATORY)
- Able to provide technical solutions and processes definition for mobility design
- In depth knowledge of Mobile Network Design
- Knowledge of multiple vendor products and features including Nokia and Ericsson (Preferred)
- Experience of managing relationships with suppliers and third parties (Preferred)
