About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review and evaluate submissions for acceptability, ensuring alignment with multiple company guidelines.
  • Negotiate coverage terms and requirements with precision.
  • Provide timely issuance of quotes and bind policies effectively and accurately.
  • Gather and maintain meticulous, organized, and complete underwriting files.
  • Assess risks within established authority.
  • Ensure compliance with carrier guidelines, state regulations, and surplus lines requirements.
  • Cultivate strong connections with agents, internal teams, carriers, and external partners to identify profitable growth avenues.
  • Achieve team / individual production goals through developing a profitable book of business and strategically growing both policies in force and premium.
  • Skillfully communicate, both written and verbally, with all stakeholders in a clear and concise message.
  • Research agency, carrier, and market data for informed decision making.
  • Address inquiries within established service level standards and exhibit underwriting expertise.
  • Advise agencies on carriers and products within your specialty and connect agents with the right resources for opportunities outside your area of expertise.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Required Active P&C and Surplus Lines licenses (or ability to obtain within 45 days).
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, analyze, and recommend solutions to insurance needs.
  • Acquires and maintains an understanding and adheres to state specific statutes involving underwriting, applicable insurance laws and regulations.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to interact, influence, and negotiate with internal/external business partners.
  • Ability to learn job-related software.
  • Key proficiencies include product acuity, functional/technical skills, command and consultation skills, interpersonal savvy, negotiating, consulting, problem solving, drive for results, handling and measuring work, and decision quality.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of related insurance experience. Will consider undergraduate degree in lieu of experience. Undergraduate studies in business, risk management, or related field, degree preferred.
  • Commercial Lines insurance experience preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CIC, CPCU, or equivalent.
