About the role

  • Handle daily operations with the Canadian Customs Broker and other related parties to ensure timely clearance of shipments and compliance with Canada import laws and Brooks policies
  • Conduct daily Canada CADentry audits and provide approval to brokers to submit to Canada Customs
  • Investigate and resolve Canada shipment discrepancies and file entry amendments as needed
  • Manage relationship with Canada Customs brokers, conduct quarterly business reviews, report monthly broker KPIs, and maintain SOP and account databases
  • Manage CARM and Single Window programs with CBS
  • Validate and approve duty invoices for payment
  • Own and manage the Canada returns process, create US Customs clearance documents, collaborate with Freight Forwarder and US warehouse, and reconcile shipment data
  • Manage Canada drawback filings and required recordkeeping to ensure regulatory compliance and timely refunds
  • Serve as primary point of contact for courier shipment issues and manage customs clearance delays
  • Provide customs clearance support for Canada marketing and/or race event shipments
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Canada free trade agreement requirements and analyze shipments for reduced duty eligibility
  • Generate certificates of origin and work with Canadian Customs Brokers to declare benefits accurately
  • Work with Product teams to identify free trade savings opportunities and execute CPTPP declarations on eligible product
  • Support global customs classification process by interpreting for Canada region and classifying product with correct Canada HTS codes
  • Collaborate with external consultant and Finance to submit annual transfer price adjustment filing with CBSA
  • Conduct liability analysis and renew Canada Import Customs bonds annually
  • Support preparation, audit, and follow up of CBSA Canada audits
  • Manage, audit, and maintain recordkeeping of import and export documents per Canada customs regulations
  • Develop standardized policies and procedures to drive operational excellence for Canada trade operations
  • Analyze customs data monthly and report KPIs and cost savings related to Canada imports and exports
  • Stay up to date with Canada customs and other government agencies’ regulations and make recommendations to Brooks processes
  • Participate in customs compliance webinars, seminars, and networking and develop internal/external compliance training
  • Serve as a backup to North America trade compliance team roles

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in international trade, business administration, or related field, or equivalent education/work experience in import and/or export industry
  • 3+ years of work experience in logistics and/or trade compliance industry
  • Knowledge of Canada import regulations and free trade agreements
  • Experience working with footwear and apparel product classifications, especially Chapter 61, 62, 64 and 65 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule
  • Completion & Active Participation in Customs relevant training
  • Customs Broker’s License or Certified Customs Specialist is a plus
  • A commitment to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
  • Ability to work independently and make effective decisions
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to function in a team environment and make positive contribution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to adapt to process change and initiate process improvements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with ERP or trade compliance tools
  • Demonstration of innovation and initiative
  • Must be able to travel within U.S. and/or Canada (approximately 5% travel)
