Vice President – Engineering

brightfin

Vice President of Engineering responsible for building and scaling Brightfin’s engineering organization across global teams. Leading delivery velocity, technical quality, team health, and engineering culture.

About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the engineering delivery model: sprint cadence, release quality, deployment velocity, and incident response across the full platform.
  • Drive meaningful improvement in delivery predictability — Brightfin needs to ship faster and more reliably as the product roadmap expands.
  • Partner directly with the CPO to translate product strategy into executable engineering plans.
  • Establish clear engineering SLAs and accountability structures across distributed teams.
  • Drive AI adoption across the engineering team — engineering should lead, not follow, Brightfin’s company-wide AI fluency initiative.
  • Build trusted relationships with the CPO and CEO; translate technical complexity into business impact.
  • Own the engineering org design: team structure, hiring prioritization, headcount planning, and budget.
  • Own the technical architecture strategy in partnership with staff/principal engineers: API design, data layer, integrations, and scalability.
  • Understand and evolve engineering standards, code quality practices, security posture, and DevOps/CI-CD maturity.
  • Lead, develop, and retain engineering managers and senior individual contributors across the US, Ukraine, the Philippines, and other geographies.
  • Build a high-performance, psychologically safe engineering culture that spans geographies and legacy company identities (brightfin + Proven Optics).

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 8–15 years of engineering experience with 4+ years in engineering leadership, including direct management of engineering managers.
  • Proven track record leading distributed engineering teams, ideally including Eastern Europe or similar high-skill globally distributed models.
  • Experience scaling a B2B SaaS product through a high-growth phase.
  • Strong delivery instincts: ability to diagnose why a team is underperforming and implement systemic solutions — not just urgency.
  • Architectural fluency: ability to make sound technical calls and earn the respect of senior engineers without writing all the code.
  • Experience navigating post-merger or significant organizational change; ability to build trust across legacy organizational identities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity into business impact for executive audiences.
  • Strong people leadership skills with demonstrated ability to build and retain high-performing, geographically distributed teams.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment with a bias toward action and pragmatic decision-making.
  • Fluent in English.
