About the role
- Oversee overall planning and management of six summer math camp sites serving 500+ middle school students in Los Angeles and New York
- Head the central program office Summer Programs Management Team and act as the project management office for summer camps
- Lead team leadership and staff management: set goals, assign roles, supervise execution, coach and provide professional development
- Set KPIs, systems and structures for planning and launching summer programs
- Determine annual staffing needs across sites based on enrollment and staff:student ratios
- Develop and maintain summer camp management guides, camp policy documentation and implementation resources
- Propose and design changes to camp model, curriculum, operations, and schedule in collaboration with Central Program Services and local teams
- Lead hiring committees for site leadership, faculty, and counselor roles across all sites
- Develop the staff training plan and manage design and implementation of training materials, resources, and job manuals
- Engage stakeholders to solicit feedback, inform changes, and build buy-in
- Maintain systems, data and tools for evaluating program efficacy, staff performance, and student satisfaction
- Ensure sites comply with labor laws and health codes in partnership with Business Operations and local programs
- Lead end-of-summer debriefs with site leadership to identify improvements
- Secure multi-year partnerships (facilities, talent, curriculum, technology) to scale or enhance summer experiences
- Serve as Site Director for one BEAM summer site each year and lead a 5-member site leadership team when in that role
- As site leader: make policy and schedule adjustments, decide disciplinary actions in consultation with stakeholders, delegate tasks, develop behavior support plans, engage families, and manage site budget and reporting to finance
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional work experience
- 2+ years working in summer camp leadership or school leadership
- Experience designing strong STEM or academics-based programs and curriculum
- At least 2 years managing a team or a program requiring management of personnel
- Coaching experience, preferably in a teaching or school environment
- Professional experience working with low-income communities
- A strong connection to the “why” of our work for both you and the team you will lead
- Preferences: 2+ years experience working in summer camp leadership
- Preferences: 1+ years experience working at BEAM Discovery or BEAM Summer Away
- Preferences: Experience with STEM education, STEM research, or STEM outreach
- Preferences: Experience working middle school age students
- Preferences: Experience using Asana or other PM tools to manage complex projects
- Preferences: A strong math teaching and/or math curriculum background
- Preferences: Degrees (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD) in a STEM field
- Preferences: Fluency in Spanish
- Preferences: Experience in the geographic area served by BEAM (LA/NY)
