About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise and coordinate surfacing operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification
  • Lead and motivate surfacing operatives, promoting high standards of workmanship and teamwork
  • Plan daily activities and allocate labour, plant, materials, and equipment efficiently
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company procedures at all times
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain effective communication throughout projects
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure surfacing works meet contract specifications and customer expectations
  • Carry out site inspections, risk assessments, and ensure safe systems of work are followed
  • Conduct routine checks on plant, equipment, and PPE, reporting any defects or maintenance requirements
  • Complete site documentation, including daily records, safety documentation, and project reports
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, defects, or near misses promptly
  • Work flexibly across different sites and shifts, including night work where required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience supervising surfacing or highway maintenance operations
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements within the construction industry
  • CSCS card
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexible approach to working hours and site locations
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification (desirable)
  • Experience working on local authority, National Highways, or major infrastructure surfacing contracts (desirable)
