About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive revenue and market share for the assigned portfolio within the assigned account base, spending 80% of working time in market
  • Develop beverage and marketing strategies and growth plans for assigned categories or large suppliers
  • Research trends, categories, and portfolios to support supplier goals
  • Present new products and beverage offerings and conduct monthly business reviews
  • Plan high-end consumer activations within key accounts
  • Provide real-time market insights and lead field intelligence and reporting for assigned territory and categories
  • Collaborate with on-premise and retail sales teams to develop creative growth solutions
  • Develop and deliver training modules for sales teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Establish merchandising objectives and define point-of-sale needs
  • Own account plans and execute brand plans
  • Obtain category distribution by presenting and selling brand features and benefits, including beverage menu development
  • Conduct staff education and build category knowledge
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders and gatekeepers of assigned accounts
  • Participate in supplier and category-specific work-with sales calls
  • Attend educational workshops and maintain specialized industry and commodity knowledge
  • Work toward advanced brand or product certifications and become the market expert
  • Maintain customer confidentiality and a safe, clean working environment
  • Drive market share in retail or on-premise accounts
  • For retail accounts, focus on facings, placement, cold-box share, displays, and planogram placement
  • For on-premise accounts, focus on menu placement and customer visibility at the bar
  • Handle beverage alcohol responsibly and conduct safe interactions with the public
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent training and work experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years in sales or industry-related and category expertise experience for category-specific roles
  • CSS Certification or WSET Spirits Level 2, category-specific certification, or fine wine accreditation
  • Specialized knowledge of the supported category
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Proficiency with MS Office, presentation software, and other computer programs
  • Verbal and written communication skills using diplomacy and discretion
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and within a team, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines
  • Analytical and reporting skills
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume team environment
  • Preferred: on-premise/hospitality experience
  • Preferred: consumer engagement mechanics knowledge or background
  • Spirits specialty: beverage program or bartending/mixology experience; cocktail costing, inventory, menu creation, P&L analysis, budgeting, batching, staff training, and elevated beverage technique knowledge
  • Wine specialty: experience with a wine supplier and in-depth knowledge of wine styles, regions, grapes, aging potential, and flavor profiles
  • Ability to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone
