About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise product and business teams on the design, launch, and operation of fintech and payments products, including consumer and commercial financial services offerings.
- Serve as a versatile legal advisor across Branch's business units, providing practical guidance to product, engineering, sales, and marketing on commercial, regulatory, and corporate matters.
- Provide legal guidance on applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including consumer protection, payments, money transmission, bank partnership, UDAAP, privacy, and marketing requirements.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements, including customer contracts, and partnership arrangements.
- Monitor and analyze relevant legal and regulatory developments, including data privacy laws (CCPA and other state laws), licensing requirements, consumer protection laws, and other laws impacting the payments and fintech space.
- Support product teams on product and feature development and go-to-market strategies.
- Advise on marketing, advertising, and customer communications relating to financial products and services.
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and active membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
- 5-8 years of legal experience, ideally with a mix of law firm and in-house practice.
- Experience advising fintech, payments, banking, or technology companies on product and regulatory matters.
- Familiarity with consumer financial services laws and regulations, including UDAAP, EFTA/Regulation E, privacy, marketing, and payments-related requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently and balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Risk-balanced decision-maker with the ability to simplify complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance and contractual protections.
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills with a practical, solution-oriented approach.
- Comfortable working independently in a dynamic, high-growth environment while collaborating across product, engineering, risk, go-to-market and other internal teams.
