About the role

  • Responsible for counseling residents and/or families with eating disorders.
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare workers.
  • Perform individual and group counseling.
  • Participate in performance improvement and CQI activities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized; functions well during stressful and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain control and respond calmly and appropriately in a crisis situation.
  • Understand HIPAA regulations.
  • Document using the DAP format in a way that communicates progress in obtaining treatment goal objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of major diagnostic categories of the DSM-V.
  • Understand compliance as it relates to the facilities licensing entities.
  • Able to select appropriate treatment methods and use these methods in individual resident treatment plans.
  • Act as a liaison between residents, each hospital, and the community.
  • Perform assessments and psych diagnosis, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and individual counseling.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other departments.
  • Assume case management responsibilities for assigned residents as needed.
  • Perform crisis intervention, including management of difficult or resistant residents, utilizing clinically appropriate techniques and methods.
  • Educate residents and families about eating disorders, the recovery phase, and relapse prevention techniques.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field that is eligible for licensure.
  • Valid state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or equivalent.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a Therapist/Counselor position working directly with residents is preferred.
  • Experience working with eating disorders is strongly preferred.
  • Must have superior interpersonal skills and be proficient in delivering individual, group, family therapy and case-management services.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • A license as a Clinical Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor is strongly preferred.
  • CEDS certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relating to eating disorder, substance abuse programs and knowledge of Joint Commission and DCF requirements is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to navigate EMR systems required.
