About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the carbon input into bp’s Group and business strategies
  • Shape how strategies are operationalized and how performance is handled across the company
  • Lead bp’s participation in external organizations including IPIECA, GHG Protocol, and WBCSD
  • Act as bp’s subject matter authority on greenhouse gas accounting
  • Support development of decision-useful greenhouse-gas accounting standards
  • Develop bp-wide policy positions on GHG accounting
  • Support policy positions on energy transition and climate regulation, including ETS, EU Methane, and Green Hydrogen
  • Scan external trends, benchmarks, frameworks, disclosures, and publications
  • Support engagement with investors, banks, NGOs, oil and gas peers, and other external partners
  • Lead development of company disclosures such as the Sustainability Report
  • Help bp align with ESRS and ISSB climate disclosure requirements
  • Support the VP of Sustainability in day-to-day activities
  • Provide guidance across the sustainability landscape and contribute to leadership-team discussions
  • Mentor and support development of the wider team
  • Undertake varied work across carbon and climate science initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High SME-level understanding of climate science
  • Knowledge of pathway modelling, including IEA and IPCC pathways
  • Knowledge of economics, carbon accounting, and carbon-accounting methodologies
  • Ability to develop new accounting and reporting approaches
  • Excellent strategic, technical, commercial, and analytical skills
  • Willingness to work in detail, including modelling
  • Ability to distil complex cross-disciplinary problems and analysis into simple insights
  • Ability to communicate clearly and powerfully in written and verbal formats
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and drive projects to completion
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across multiple interfaces
  • Ability to engage confidently at executive level
  • Ability to manage competing tensions across the business
