About the role

  • Guide development and assurance for commercial revenue streams for projects along the power value chain
  • Guide the projects teams and trading in evaluating offtake products and monetisation strategies for new and existing projects and support in pricing of PPA configurations
  • Support M&A initiatives and due diligence
  • Lead and guide teams to solve sophisticated business challenges by applying a hypothesis-led approach to developing commercial assurance and optimisation methodologies
  • Lead a portfolio of complex projects on power value chain assurance and optimisation projects on behalf of the VP Power Market Insights and the SVP S&S, and our businesses
  • Develop work plans and prioritise backlogs, ensuring quality control and continuous improvement across the project lifecycle
  • Develop storylines and prepare presenting materials which effectively communicate commercial assurance and recommendations for a diverse range of audiences, including bp’s businesses, integrating functions and bp LT
  • Stay updated with industry trends and standard processes and actively monitor market movements to identify new strategic business opportunities aligned with bp’s strategic direction
  • Develop the capabilities of the wider team by leading 1:1s and group coaching of relevant commercial & functional skills and knowledge areas
  • Contribute to bp’s intellectual capital by sharing knowledge and insights within the S&S team and across bp

Requirements

  • Significant, direct experience in a power markets role
  • Deep experience in Energy Economics and European / Asia-Pacific electricity markets with focus on bp’s markets of interest (UK, Germany, Iberia, Japan, Australia etc.)
  • Good understanding of European / Asia-Pacific market legislations and regulations at asset and regional level including RES auctions, certificates etc.
  • Strong understanding of power and flexibility markets, including day-ahead, intraday, balancing services (FCR, aFRR, mFRR), capacity and renewable markets, RED III, and grid tariff structures
  • Thorough understanding of Emissions Trading System (ETS), other CO2 markets and global commodity markets
  • Proven track record to lead multiple projects simultaneously, working across diverse teams: originating, initiating, and developing projects and work programmes; mobilising teams; ensuring quality and timely delivery
  • Problem solving and strategic thinking: demonstrated success in developing and implementing commercial strategies that drive significant business improvements aligned with bp’s overarching strategy
  • Ability to build and manage relationships and networks both internally and externally, delivering tailored high-quality solutions
  • Assertiveness, with strength in conflict resolution
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and influencing skills: ability to lead workshops, clearly communicate commercial market narratives and facilitate & influence discussions with diverse audiences at senior levels
  • Excellent writing skills and oral presentation
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members
  • Advanced financial competence and business development skills: shown ability in identifying new business opportunities, developing proposals, and evaluating commercial feasibility
  • Good business judgement and ability to arrive at pragmatic solutions to complex strategic and commercial problems
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in business, economics
  • Experience in power market or optimisation modelling would be advantageous
  • Language skills: English mandatory (business fluent), other languages (e.g. Spanish or German) would be beneficial.
