Boulevard

Lead Counsel

Boulevard

Lead Counsel managing legal needs for Boulevard's payment platform and advising on various legal matters. Collaborate with teams while operating autonomously in a fast-growing company.

About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Run commercial deals and answer regulatory and product questions associated with a payments platform in a regulated market.
  • Handle the everyday legal needs of a fast-growing company mostly on your own judgment.
  • Work autonomously, partner directly with teams, and escalate genuinely novel, high-risk, or strategic matters.
  • Serve as the dedicated legal partner to a portfolio of product and business teams.
  • Advise on a broad range of legal matters, including payments and FinTech, healthcare/MedSpa compliance, consumer protection, marketing, privacy, data governance, intellectual property, and dispute resolution.
  • Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and management of commercial agreements.
  • Own and continuously improve contract templates, playbooks, and legal processes.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6 to 11 years of combined law-firm and in-house experience, ideally including time at a SaaS, payments/fintech, or other regulated technology company.
  • JD from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one US state.
  • A track record of operating independently, owning matters end to end, and being trusted to make and defend judgment calls with limited oversight.
  • Strong command of technology and commercial contracting, with the instinct to balance risk and speed.
  • Comfort moving across commercial, regulatory, privacy, corporate, and employment questions, and the resourcefulness to get smart fast on something unfamiliar.
  • A practical, solutions-oriented style; you make complex issues clear to non-lawyers and are known as an enabler, not a gatekeeper.
  • You do your best work with incomplete information, competing priorities, and a fast-moving business.
  • Exposure to payments or fintech regulation (money movement, processor or card-network rules) is nice to have.
  • Familiarity with healthcare, wellness, or other regulated consumer industries is nice to have.
  • Privacy experience (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR) beyond contract-level data terms is nice to have.
  • Experience as an early or sole in-house attorney at a high-growth company is nice to have.

Benefits

Comp & perks
  • 401(k) match plus dental, medical, vision, and life insurance.
  • Flexible vacation day policy.
  • Fully remote work with a monthly work from home stipend.
  • Family planning resources and specialized support programs.
  • Equity opportunities.
