About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care
  • Review and update health records
  • Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Prepare treatment rooms for upcoming examinations
  • Greet patients and the community respectfully
  • Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits
  • Verify diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
  • Perform clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required within 12 months of start date): Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • Possesses problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
