About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Float to various assigned sites throughout the Bon Secours Mercy Health System outside the home location
  • Provide respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation
  • Perform respiratory care procedures, diagnostic services, patient monitoring, and patient and staff education
  • Maintain accurate data collection and record keeping and perform product evaluation and assessment
  • Assist physicians with bronchoscopy, catheter insertion, tracheotomy, intubation, and invasive monitoring procedures
  • Perform CPR, closed-chest compressions, airway management, and respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitations
  • Conduct therapeutic airway procedures, airway humidification, secretion aspiration, extubation, and endotracheal tube maintenance
  • Select, assemble, monitor, evaluate, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators
  • Perform pulmonary function tests, arterial punctures and analysis, arterial line procedures, and EKGs
  • Assess patients, administer prescribed treatments, monitor responses, and recommend therapy adjustments to physicians
  • Provide oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, postural drainage, percussion, incentive spirometry, and related respiratory treatments
  • Instruct patients and families on respiratory equipment, therapies, and home aerosol therapy
  • Obtain sputum specimens and evaluate blood and urine laboratory values
  • Maintain respiratory therapy equipment and supplies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state they are working (required)
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required)
  • BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (required)
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross (required)
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (required)
  • NRP Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification from AAP/AWHONN (required)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred)
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred)
  • Associate Degree from an AMA-approved school for Respiratory Care (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • 1 year of experience in an acute care setting (required)
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in at least two of: Nursery/NICU, PICU, ICU/CCU, ED, and general care areas
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training
