About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design and develop next-generation architectures at the interface of multimodal perception, foundation models, behavior learning, and end-to-end autonomous driving.
Co-design innovative software that transitions state-of-the-art research into production-ready systems.
Execute training and evaluation cycles on large-scale datasets, from data curation and representation learning to failure diagnosis and model optimization.
Integrate backbone and foundation models into BMW’s autonomous driving perception and planning stack to ensure robustness across different markets and Operational Design Domains (ODDs).
Evaluate and advance current methods in self-supervised learning, multimodal fusion, and end-to-end architectures for real-world deployment.
Contribute across the full development lifecycle, from early research to series production release, with direct impact on customers worldwide.

Requirements

What you’ll need

University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
Several years of hands-on experience developing ML models for perception, autonomous driving, or comparable vision systems, ideally in an industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of current approaches in autonomous driving perception, end-to-end architectures, and foundation or backbone model architectures.
Proven production experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, including training on large datasets and programming skills in Python or C++.
Demonstrated ownership in a mature AD/ADAS, robotics, or large-autonomy stack with measurable impact.
Deep expertise in developing large-scale models, including training, evaluation, error analysis, and optimization across different ODDs and markets; experience in safety-critical or regulated environments is a plus.
Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate trends, challenge conventions, and make architectural decisions for next-generation autonomous driving systems.
