About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and develop next-generation architectures at the interface of multimodal perception, foundation models, behavior learning, and end-to-end autonomous driving.
  • Co-design innovative software that transitions state-of-the-art research into production-ready systems.
  • Execute training and evaluation cycles on large-scale datasets, from data curation and representation learning to failure diagnosis and model optimization.
  • Integrate backbone and foundation models into BMW’s autonomous driving perception and planning stack to ensure robustness across different markets and Operational Design Domains (ODDs).
  • Evaluate and advance current methods in self-supervised learning, multimodal fusion, and end-to-end architectures for real-world deployment.
  • Contribute across the full development lifecycle, from early research to series production release, with direct impact on customers worldwide.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Several years of hands-on experience developing ML models for perception, autonomous driving, or comparable vision systems, ideally in an industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of current approaches in autonomous driving perception, end-to-end architectures, and foundation or backbone model architectures.
  • Proven production experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, including training on large datasets and programming skills in Python or C++.
  • Demonstrated ownership in a mature AD/ADAS, robotics, or large-autonomy stack with measurable impact.
  • Deep expertise in developing large-scale models, including training, evaluation, error analysis, and optimization across different ODDs and markets; experience in safety-critical or regulated environments is a plus.
  • Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate trends, challenge conventions, and make architectural decisions for next-generation autonomous driving systems.
