About the role

  • Conduct research on generative systems for CAx workflows, including CAD, CAE and CAM.
  • Develop methods, algorithms and development processes to generate geometries that meet specified requirements such as manufacturability, structural performance, weight and cost.
  • Analyze and integrate fabrication requirements and constraints into the design framework to produce suitable geometries, e.g. via mathematical formulation.
  • Drive the vision of applying innovative techniques in real-world vehicle development.
  • Collaborate closely with universities and various BMW engineering and manufacturing departments.
  • Publish results and actively contribute to the research community within BMW and the broader automotive ecosystem.

Requirements

  • University degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of additive manufacturing, robotics and programming (e.g. Python).
  • Good understanding of CAx artifacts (3D geometry, simulation models, etc.) and the workflows used in product design and development.
  • Experience with graphical programming / low-code tools (e.g. Synera, Grasshopper).
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle design and automotive technology.
  • Experience with commercial CAD, CAM, CAE, PIDO and optimization software.
  • A track record of research contributions (publications, conference presentations, or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Business-fluent English; German language skills are a plus.
