About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle
  • Support aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic design for various spaceflight systems
  • Analyze for vehicle-level aerothermal and rocket plume models and loads
  • Develop and document aerothermodynamic models and databases for space launch and reentry vehicles using various methods
  • Address aerothermal environments for surface features and impacts of rocket plume heating during all phases of flight

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in the fields of aerothermal or thermodynamic analysis
  • Strong aerodynamic fundamentals and intuition through multiple flight regimes (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic, free molecular flow)
  • Proven experience deriving space vehicle aerothermal environments
  • Proven experience with one or more aerothermal CFD modeling tools (LAURA, DPLR, FUN3D, US3D, etc.)
  • Experience with CFD pre and post processing (Pointwise, Link3D, Ensight, Tecplot, etc.)
  • Proven track record using scripting and programming languages for automation and data manipulation.
  • MS or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience modeling rocket plume environments, both direct impingement and indirect heating (preferred)
  • Proven experience using Link3D and US3D (preferred)
  • Experience in Multiphysics simulations of hypersonic flows (preferred)
  • Experience with tool development using MATLAB (preferred)
  • Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO) (preferred)
