About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead tactical and strategic efforts within a cross-functional Materials & Processes team to lead direction of Additive Manufacturing efforts and hardware within Blue Origin’s world class in-house facilities.
  • Identify low maturity Additive Manufacturing technologies to improve technical performance or manufacturability of hardware.
  • Support a team of proficient high performing engineers.
  • Develop Additive Manufacturing processes, parameters, requirements, and specifications for existing and novel metallic materials.
  • Lead test campaigns designing, collecting and analyzing material properties data for produced Additively Manufactured metallic materials and hardware.
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and integration engineers to implement requirements in all phases of AM coupled with robust production solutions and design for manufacture.
  • Implement root cause and corrective actions for AM builds.
  • Optimize and production harden AM processes to increase throughput and decrease variability.
  • Contribute to the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation and implementation.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years directly related Metallic Additive Manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum Bachelors in material science/engineering or related field
  • Principle investigator in process development and optimization of metallic Additive Manufacturing processes.
  • Hands on experience measuring, analyzing, developing, characterizing Additive Manufacturing of nickel (e.g. Inconel), aluminum, and copper alloys.
  • Experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and managing budgets.
  • Experience with powder metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of applicability of characterization methods such as SEM, EDS, EBSD, PSD measurements, XRF, ICP, and OES.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering test plans for analysis and qualification of components or materials.
  • Proven experience developing and completing experimental plans, analyzing data and concisely reporting the results.
  • Strong written and personal computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
