About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and qualify materials and processes for liquid rocket engine applications
- Work with design, manufacturing and process engineers to implement and optimize materials for performance and cost
- Identify and apply mature state-of-the-art processes to manufacturing and develop process control documentation and quality assurance measures
- Develop materials test plans process and materials evaluation/qualification
- Own process and repair qualification across the development and production lifecycle
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for special processes
- Support day-to-day manufacturing through non-conformance disposition, manufacturing floor support, etc.
Requirements
What you’ll need- B .S. degree or higher in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Internship experience focused on materials and processes with an emphasis on materials design, process development, implementation, and/or qualification
- Exposure to definition and qualification of special processes such as welding, casting, forging, additive, or similar
- Experience working with Ni-based alloys, Cu-based alloys, and/or other materials common in aerospace propulsion manufacturing
- Ability to collect and analyze data and present results in a meaningful format
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Demonstrated experience with materials and process development and qualification (Desired)
- In-depth understanding of materials/process relationships (Desired)
- Familiarity with a wide variety of manufacturing processes (additive, casting, forging) and their impact on joining techniques (Desired)
- Experience with failure and forensic analysis of aerospace or other complex hardware (Desired)
- Experience evaluating and interpreting NDT inspection results (Desired)
- Understanding of quality standards, industrial codes, and/or material specifications (Desired)
