About the role
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of APIs using Apigee Edge, Apigee X, and Apigee Hybrid, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards
- Architect, install, and manage the Apigee Hybrid runtime on Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, or OpenShift), including control plane integration, networking, and security configurations
- Drive capacity planning and infrastructure sizing for Apigee Hybrid clusters based on projected API traffic, availability zones, and IP/CIDR allocations
- Configure and manage API policies for traffic management, transformation, caching, and advanced security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, threat protection)
- Implement and enforce API governance standards, environment group strategies, and proxy design conventions
- Support the full API lifecycle from design and mocking to publishing, testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and deprecation
- Integrate with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) for API bundle deployments, shared flows, and environment-specific configuration promotion
- Develop and maintain shared flows and reusable proxy patterns for authentication, logging, error handling, and traffic control
- Monitor and troubleshoot platform issues using Kubernetes tools (kubectl, helm) and integrate with observability platforms (Cloud Ops, Prometheus, ELK)
- Collaborate with backend, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless API adoption and runtime stability
- Provide technical leadership, documentation, and mentorship to development and platform engineering teams
- Position is a six month contract-to-hire role located on-site in Reading, PA; applicants must be able to commute or relocate
Requirements
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience
- Strong hands-on experience in API design and proxy development using Apigee Edge, Apigee X, and/or Apigee Hybrid
- Experience architecting, installing, and managing Apigee Hybrid runtime on Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, or OpenShift), including control plane integration, networking, and security configurations
- Experience with capacity planning and infrastructure sizing for Apigee Hybrid clusters, including IP/CIDR allocations
- Knowledge of API policies for traffic management, transformation, caching, and advanced security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, threat protection)
- Solid understanding of REST, JSON, XML, and modern API security patterns (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, SAML/SSO)
- Experience deploying and operating applications on Kubernetes (pods, services, namespaces, helm, IP/CIDR planning, cluster sizing)
- Proven experience with DevOps and automation tools (Maven, Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
- Exposure to backend integration patterns with microservices and legacy systems
- Familiarity with observability and log management solutions (Prometheus, ELK, Fluent Bit, Splunk, Google Cloud Logging)
- Preferred: experience with Cassandra, multi-region or hybrid cloud deployments, developer portal integrations, and API onboarding workflows
- Ability to commute to or relocate to Reading, PA (only applicants able to commute or willing to relocate will be considered)
