Staff Software Engineer, Enterprise Services

Engineering Manager

• Lead, mentor, and grow the Ground & Control Services engineering team responsible for autonomous satellite operations, real-time tasking, and ground-to-space communications.
• Work with leadership to drive prioritization and planning across GCS projects with dynamically changing commercial and program objectives, ensuring engineering efforts stay aligned with business goals, customer commitments, and mission operations.
• Partner with operations, communication engineering, flight software, mission planning, product, and program leadership to clarify requirements, align priorities, and maintain a strong end-to-end understanding of system behavior.
• Provide technical direction and architectural guidance for systems interfacing with ground stations, satellite communication protocols, and mission-critical operational workflows.
• Establish and continuously improve engineering processes including design reviews, code reviews, testing practices, system safety considerations, and operational readiness.
• Foster a healthy on-call culture and ensure effective support of live operational systems, including incident response, root-cause analysis, and long-term corrective actions.
• Drive roadmap planning, resource allocation, and execution across multiple projects, balancing rapid iteration with long-term reliability and availability.
• Hire, onboard, coach, and evaluate engineers, emphasizing skill development, collaboration, and accountability.

Software Engineering Manager

• Develop comprehensive integration, requirements verification, and test strategies for EO payloads.
• Develop and maintain optical and sensor test facilities.
• Test payloads and support the production team as they integrate your payloads onto satellites.
• Partner with engineering, program management, and production to ensure comprehensive and efficient end-to-end validation of payload test from plan through design and execution.
• Define requirements for and oversee the design and build of test Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and other test infrastructure for the payload.
• Support the development of new EO payload architectures and concepts.
• Simulate and analyses new sensors, designs, and/or phenomonologies to support R&D and technical strategy development.
• Develop optical system requirements associated with new designs.
• Provide technical assistance and oversight with design procurement and integration.
• Support the characterization and commissioning activities of orbital imaging systems.

Staff Electro-Optical Payload Engineer

Systems Engineer

• Develop and own the productized software architecture for the ground segment for customer satellite missions and programs.
• Architect, design, and manage software requirements and design for As-Is and Target architectures for systems and sub-systems within BlackSky’s Ground Segment.
• Distill unified requirements and system design across disparate major customers and programs, product roadmap, and BlackSky Strategic vision.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholder and translate requirements into engineering specifications within the BlackSky architecture.
• Understand the interactions between systems, applications, and services within the architecture and evaluate the impact of changes or additions including risks resource, and schedule implications.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of BlackSky architecture documentation.
• Coordinate development and execution across software development teams, systems engineering, and program and product teams to develop execution plans for system capabilities, align development teams, and ensure effective capability integration across space and ground systems and subsystems.
• Work with engineering teams on elements of system design including resource requirements, interfaces and data models, enterprise integration patterns, system and sub-system capabilities, standards and best practices, etc.
• Support the capture and execution of customer programs by driving alignment with a common missions ground architecture.
• Act as liaison between technical and non-technical departments, facilitating cross-team collaboration and understanding on system capabilities and execution.

• Provide subject matter expertise for ADCS and imaging payload subsystem software design and development.

• Collaborate with other ESG software team members and other cross-functional engineers from multiple disciplines to deliver mission-critical software features and bugfixes that are on-time and defect free.
• Ensure that adequate documentation, test, inspection, and analysis is delivered and performed to verify compliance with requirements and other goals.
• Assist with Systems Engineering with requirements development and management.
• Execute and provide feedback for flight software design, development, unit tests and releases processes.

• Design, implement, and maintain software that enables autonomous satellite operations and real-time tasking.
• Develop and integrate services that interface with ground station infrastructure and satellite communication protocols.
• Build software solutions to support satellite tasking and monitoring.
• Collaborate with operations, communication engineers, flight software engineers, mission planning engineers, and other software teams to understand and refine technical requirements.
• Write clean, maintainable code with strong emphasis on safety, test coverage, and reliability.

Senior Software Engineer, Ground & Control Services

• Design, implement, and maintain software for the components making up BlackSky’s mission management services.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and team planning discussions.
• Take an active role in testing, debugging, and documenting implemented software functionality.
• Proactively identify problems with requirements (lack of clarity, inconsistencies, technical limitations) and communicates these issues early.
• Interface with mission planning, ground software, and platform engineers to plan and execute autonomous constellation operations software products.
• Assist with operational tasks to ensure stability in production environments and support ongoing constellation operations and customer fulfillment efforts
• Support on-call rotations and troubleshooting of live system operations as needed.

Staff Software Engineer – Mission Management

Attorney

• Responsible for managing small internal legal team; overseeing all legal functions including regulatory, export, US government and international sales, and procurement contracts.
• Serve as the senior legal advisor to the General Counsel (GC) and senior leadership team on all legal matters affecting BlackSky.
• Participate as an active member of BlackSky's Leadership Team. Provide counsel on legal, business, and operational matters.
• Represent BlackSky's legal interests and provide assurance of strong corporate governance and overall legal well-being before the Board, regulatory agencies, and auditors.
• Provide guidance on matters ranging from contract analysis and interpretation for commercial, U.S. Government, and international agreements and cost accounting compliance to corporate governance, finance, and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor and counsel BlackSky on the federal and state regulatory landscape affecting the Company, which includes regulations impacting BlackSky as a U.S. Government contractor.
• Lead, manage, and participate as the senior legal person, as appropriate, in SOX activities, compliance audits and investigations.
• Perform risk assessments related to proposed initiatives, corporate activities and industry developments, recommending alternative courses of action to achieve business objectives while limiting liability and risk.
