About the role

  • Perform design of projects from the conceptual and bid phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set by the project managers based off client needs
  • Apply advanced knowledge of civil engineering design principles, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility layout using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Independently prepare erosion and sediment control designs compliant with regulatory standards and environmental requirements
  • Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and calculations using specialized tools within Civil 3D
  • Analyze, design and optimize water systems using Water distribution network modelling software such as WaterCAD
  • Develop and review technical reports, engineering plans, and construction documentation
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in maintaining project schedules and budgets
  • Interface directly with the client or subconsultants
  • Support business development through writing of technical approaches, scopes of work, and presentation to clients
  • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines and project team
  • Function as a technical specialist or in a lead role
  • With minimal supervision, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods
  • Expand knowledge and skill set in area of discipline
  • Continue to learn, remains current and applies independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables
  • Perform complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Review lower-level engineering work or assignments
  • Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work; lead smaller production teams; and serve as the responsible charge for a project
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects
  • Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects
  • Recognized as a technical specialist by the division having in-depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or of technical aspects of an industry
  • Design a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s)
  • Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, and three years of related experience, or in the alternative, Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, and five years of related experience
  • PE license is required for this position
  • Experience with grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, and erosion and sediment control are required
  • Experience with environmental regulations and best management practices (BMPs)
  • Experience with erosion and sediment control practices including site preparation, surface stabilization, runoff control measures, and runoff conveyance measures is required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; Experience with specialized tools within Civil 3D including Hydraflow Hydrographs, Hydraflow Express, Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA), and WaterCAD; and Microsoft Excel is necessary
  • Experience with project management is required
  • Travel required in Southeast US (10%)
  • Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English
