About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the Division’s comprehensive business development program and annual financial goals, including bookings, book-to-burn, and weighted pipeline.
- Develop and execute business development strategies for planning and government services sectors.
- Identify synergies for cross-selling existing and new service lines.
- Build and implement sales and marketing initiatives to drive market growth.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in water and transportation.
- Drive the Pursuit to Win process from opportunity identification through contract negotiation.
- Manage complex win strategies and proposal efforts across conventional and alternative project delivery methods.
- Lead Strategic Pursuits to wins.
- Help execute corporate strategy for the planning and government services vertical.
- Collaborate with division market leaders to maximize cross-selling.
- Support and mentor Regional Business Development Directors in regional growth plans and networking initiatives.
- Provide strategic direction for key pursuits and go/no-go decisions.
- Optimize the sales funnel and client engagement processes.
- Improve client experience, satisfaction, and loyalty.
- Represent BKF at industry events, conferences, client meetings, and after-hours client events.
- Ensure business development plans, budgets, and client relationship activities are captured in CRM.
- Acquire and analyze public agency and target client budgets for business development planning.
- Communicate and collaborate with the internal Marketing & Business Development Team.
- Maintain an updated and accurate Planning & Government Division pipeline.
- Oversee Regional Business Development Directors and Managers across strategic Northern California geographies.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 15 years of experience in business development, marketing leadership, and strategic planning within A/E/C or infrastructure services sectors, preferably in California
- Must be located next to one of BKF’s Northern California offices
- Proven success leading teams, managing client relationships, strategic selling, and driving revenue growth
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Deep understanding of the full project lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, and land development
- Proven leadership in client relationship management, strategic planning, strategic teaming, proposal strategy, and negotiation
- Key contacts with private organizations and state and municipal agencies in the region
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with CRM systems and data-driven business development practices
- Ability to create impactful differentiated value propositions
- Ability to coach seller/doers and others in client relationship development and management
- Established strategic-client relationships and a broad California contact network relevant to the Planning & Government Division
- Ability to regularly talk, hear, and operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse
- Ability to occasionally lift, pull/push, and carry up to 20 pounds, with accommodations
- Ability to work in an office setting and a high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Willingness and ability to travel to BKF locations and client sites
