About the role

  • Survey private and public woodlots for forest birds
  • Conduct point count surveys and take forest composition measurements
  • Record forest health risks and enter data
  • Search for and monitor nests of target species
  • Participate in volunteer and landowner engagement activities

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Ontario forest birds
  • At least 2 years of experience identifying birds outside coursework
  • Experience conducting point counts and/or surveying birds
  • Experience working in the field and/or using GPS and compass
  • High level of organization and ability to take clear notes
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel and Word)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence (Class G preferred)
  • Valid First Aid Certification (obtained before contract start date)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
