About the role
- Manage day-to-day operations of the depot, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services
- Deliver and maintain first class customer service against pre-defined business KPIs
- Work alongside Depot Manager to support operational, safety and service performance
- Provide leadership, give work instructions and monitor performance of the traffic dispatcher team
- Review depot KPIs for service, safety and profitability
- Operationally manage shift operations including driver supervision and ensure vehicle availability with fleet management
- Manage, motivate, train and develop team members
- Address underperformance and implement disciplinary procedures as appropriate
- Conduct absence management and return-to-work interviews
- Plan mobilisation of new work and manage tactical re-routes and seasonal challenges
- Ensure routing and service issues are resolved and take responsibility for customer service experience; may conduct customer visits
- Contribute to cost control, improve efficiency, reduce operating costs and meet budget targets
- Ensure all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including induction, training, procedures, near miss reporting and emergency procedures
- Deputise for the Depot Manager and perform other reasonable tasks as required by the company
Requirements
- CPC is desirable
- Experience as Transport Manager or similar responsibility in Services or Logistics industry
- People and health & safety management in a unionised environment
- Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs
- Demonstrable experience of successful resource management and cost control
- Lean Management understanding
- Experience with route planning software (Route Monkey, DPS (LogiX) etc)
- Local geographical knowledge and transport legislation desirable
- Knowledge of working within a time critical service environment
- Waste industry knowledge and relevant laws would be ideal
