About the role
- Serve as the primary actuarial owner for pricing across all THREE lines of business, with particular focus on Commercial Property and General Liability.
- Set and evolve pricing strategy, balancing growth, competitiveness, and long term profitability.
- Make independent actuarial recommendations and sign off on pricing assumptions, methodologies, and decisions.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of actuarial analysts and actuaries, currently consisting of three direct reports.
- Set clear expectations, priorities, and development plans for team members.
- Review and validate team analyses to ensure technical quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Build a strong culture of ownership, accountability, and analytical rigor.
- Own the full pricing lifecycle, including scoping, analysis, internal review, regulatory rate filings, and implementation.
- Lead the quarterly profitability review, including review of and coordination across all lines of business.
- Establish and maintain strong pricing governance, controls, and documentation.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and transparency across all pricing deliverables.
- Design, build, and maintain pricing models, including GLMs and other actuarial models, using SQL and R or Python.
- Provide technical direction and review for models developed by team members.
- Partner with data science teams to enhance GLMs and incorporate predictive model outputs into pricing decisions.
- Interpret and incorporate CAT model outputs and other external data sources as appropriate.
- Improve efficiency and effectiveness of the entire pricing process.
- Act as the actuarial authority for THREE in discussions with Product, Underwriting, Finance, and senior leadership.
- Clearly communicate complex actuarial concepts, tradeoffs, and recommendations to non actuarial stakeholders.
- Influence business decisions through clear, confident, and concise communication.
- Represent pricing actuarial perspectives in strategic planning discussions.
Requirements
- Significant P&C pricing experience with demonstrated ownership of pricing decisions.
- Commercial lines pricing experience, specifically Commercial Property and General Liability.
- Strong hands on coding skills in SQL and R or Python.
- Experience building and owning actuarial models, including GLMs, end to end.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex actuarial analyses clearly and confidently to senior, non technical audiences.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage actuarial staff.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently, prioritize work, and exercise sound actuarial judgment.
- FCAS preferred; strong ACAS with extensive pricing ownership and leadership experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of P&C actuarial experience, primarily in pricing.
- Experience pricing small business or package products.
- Experience scaling or maturing actuarial teams and processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory environments and rate filing processes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience collaborating closely with data science or advanced analytics teams.
