About the role
- Leading cross-team projects and initiatives, facilitating inter-team communication and collaboration
- Mentoring engineers and fostering their growth, coaching teams to continuously improve delivery pace and quality, and providing feedback to support career development
- Acting as a force multiplier by building systems, authoring tools, or introducing policies and patterns that raise organizational productivity
- Setting long-term strategic technical direction (6+ months ahead), identifying areas of greatest need and opportunity across the engineering organization, and creating plans for improvement with stakeholder buy-in
- Navigating ambiguity effectively, defining next steps that align with Engineering and company needs, and stepping in as a contributor on any team when needed
- Collaborating and recommending architectural solutions, while understanding and explaining trade-offs around time to market, structural and functional quality, security, maintainability, resources, and scope
- Using data and facts to debate technical architecture decisions with team members and stakeholders to gain buy-in
- Exercising and improving Beyond's engineering practices such as refactoring, pairing, code reviews, collective code ownership, containers, IaC, CI/CD, observability
- Leading follow-up on incidents, proactively improving systems to prevent recurrence, and enhancing monitoring capabilities for faster detection
- Supporting and maintaining the existing code baseline and products
- Fostering cost-awareness by advocating for cost-saving initiatives and diligently monitoring spending across existing systems
Requirements
- 9+ years of experience building services in a multi-tenant SaaS environment with whole platform scope
- Experience with Python/Django
- Expert-level proficiency in primary focus area (Backend/Frontend/Data/DevOps) with strong proficiency across all systems and platform layers
- 4+ years of experience as a tech lead, including leading cross-team initiatives and projects
- Proven track record of championing and executing 2+ technical migrations or large multi-month platform projects
- Experience mentoring engineers, supporting their career growth, and fostering team development
- Strong product and business mindedness with demonstrated ability to connect technical work to measurable business outcomes (revenue growth, customer retention, operational efficiency) and making revenue-driven technical decisions that optimize for business impact rather than technical elegance
- Demonstrated expertise with CI/CD operational excellence, trunk-based development, and feature flagging for controlled deployments
- Experience with comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability systems focused on business-critical functionality
- Experience with autonomous team structures following high cohesion, loose coupling principles for independent decision-making
- Demonstrates a strong grasp of Conway’s Law, recognizing how team design influences system design while focusing their own work on the system side.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous scopes, defining outcomes and setting medium-term strategic technical direction (6+ months ahead)
- Proven ability to use data and facts to gain buy-in for architectural decisions and facilitate cross-team collaboration
- Experience working across multiple products/key components with organizational-level technical decision-making
