About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Responsible for designing and leading a system-wide planned giving program that will enhance BILH hospitals’ standing in the medical community and contribute to their financial strength.
  • Develop multi-year plans and goals to drive programmatic growth.
  • Work in direct partnership with each hospital’s development and leadership teams to educate the constituents on the importance of planned giving for long term fundraising revenue support.
  • Work with each Hospital philanthropy leader to create a strategic plan for growing the pipeline for planned gifts.
  • Develops strategy to build portfolio of planned giving prospects for each hospital in collaboration with major gift and prospect management efforts.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit planned gifts such as bequests, trusts, and gift annuities ranging from 5 to 8 figures.
  • Create a consistent web presence, marketing plan, and Legacy Society for planned gifts for each hospital.
  • Create educational and stewardship events to grow interest and membership in the planned giving programs.
  • Devise, implement and manage effective, complex strategies to secure gifts at the $100,000+ level for capital and program priorities for each hospital; create a plan for cultivation and stewardship aligned with vision for each hospital.
  • Enhance operational efficiency in planned giving by creating systems and processes from gift documentation to reporting that are accurate and aligned with the policies and standards of the BILH system philanthropy office.
  • Serves as a member of the BILH Philanthropy Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for advancing the system and affiliate institutions mission by working to identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and retain planned gift ($100,000+) prospects and donors.
  • Works with member hospitals on strategies for volunteer leadership and advisory councils to engage lay leaders and new prospects.
  • Works with hospital philanthropy leaders to shape key institutional and dev. related messages through the creation of major proposals, solicitation letters, and other materials for planned giving prospects and donors; communicates them to key audiences consistently for strategic positioning in the marketplace.
  • Establishes and maintains high-quality relationships with hospital philanthropy leaders to stay abreast of the critical issues facing healthcare, and advancing their institutional funding priorities.
  • Works with philanthropy leaders to increase Legacy Society membership and engage Board members and staff in considering planned gifts as part of their philanthropy.
  • Works directly with prospects and donors to align estate plans with philanthropic goals; achieve an average of eight face to face visits per month.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s required ; master’s degree in related field preferred.
  • More than 10 years related development work experience required and 3-5 years supervisory/management experience.
  • Proven track record of implementation of strategies and plans to substantially increase revenue through planned giving vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and legal requirements of planned giving.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and successfully utilize leaders and volunteers in achieving goals.
  • Demonstrated success in forging strong working relationships and building trust with donors and colleagues.
  • Ability to effectively represent an organization to external audiences with strong verbal and written communications skills and proposal writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel, occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications and other web - based applications.
