About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop visual approaches to stories together with the editorial team—from the initial idea through to implementation
  • Identify which aspects of a topic are suitable for visualization
  • Analyze and structure data to uncover insights that can be developed into stories
  • Conceptualize and produce infographics for print
  • Create data-driven visualizations for the website
  • Implement interactive or scroll-based formats where appropriate
  • Contribute original topic and visualization ideas
  • Establish standards and workflows for visual storytelling within the editorial team
  • Work closely with editors to translate research, data, and complex relationships into clear visualizations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience in data journalism, visual storytelling, or infographic design
  • A strong sense of journalistic relevance and narrative structure
  • The ability to communicate complex content clearly and visually
  • Experience working with data, including analysis, structuring, and interpretation
  • Proficiency with common visualization tools, such as Datawrapper, Flourish, and Illustrator
  • Initial experience with interactive formats, such as simple web visualizations, is desirable
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with editors as equals and develop ideas together
  • Basic knowledge of JavaScript or web technologies is a plus
  • Work samples, ideally submitted with the application
