Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies Workers Compensation Division seeking an Underwriting Technician in the Bay Area to support Underwriters and agencies.
Review incoming submissions for completeness and quality; request missing or conflicting information.
Accurately enter and maintain data in Underwriting and Policy Administration systems; prepare preliminary underwriting materials.
Validate key rating variables and support automated quoting by resolving discrepancies with Agents or Underwriters.
Complete complex policy transactions including endorsements, cancellations, ownership and broker-of-record changes.
Coordinate policy issuance, follow-ups, ordering loss control reports, and setting diary reminders for timely processing.
Support process automation initiatives, test tools, provide feedback, and conduct peer audits for quality standards.
Identify workflow bottlenecks, recommend solutions, document internal procedures, and contribute to training materials.
Proactively communicate with Agents about submission status, outstanding items, and manage day-to-day correspondence between Underwriters and agencies.
Requirements
EDUCATION: Minimum of high school diploma, or equivalent certificate, required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of experience in insurance, preferably within the workers compensation industry, required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret underwriting files, write concise reports and business correspondence, and communicate clearly with colleagues and external partners.
MATH SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; compute rate, ratio, and percent; interpret bar graphs.
REASONING SKILLS: Apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions; solve problems with several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic technical competency with computers, Microsoft Office/365, and ability to master proprietary/vendor software.
