About the role

  • The Assistant Textile Designer supports the creation and development of artwork for Belk Private Brands lines.
  • This position is also responsible for the creation, development and execution of artwork that achieve Belk Private brand objectives, and overall product strategy.
  • The Assistant Textile Designer will participate in research and development of seasonal trends and ensure that designs meet merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points, and overall creative direction for each brand, age group, and gender.
  • Essential Functions
  • Strong art/color sense and ability to translate merchant/market input into highly sell-able product
  • Researches domestic markets for color/print/fabric trends each season
  • Create original artwork (prints, embroideries, appliques, and other graphics) in Adobe suite and/or Kaledo for Private Brands lines
  • Create all artwork in full repeat and clean via Adobe and/or Kaledo.
  • Recolor/rework artwork as needed or requested by Textile Designer and/or Product Designer
  • Create color and print multipliers, making a cohesive collection for presentation boards & the fully assorted line.
  • Be able to work on multiple brands and age ranges, from design to product development
  • Collaborate with Textile Designer, Apparel Design, Sourcing, and Vendors to achieve product execution and maintain design integrity
  • Create and adhere to seasonal Time/Action calendar
  • Education/Experience 1-2 years applicable experience required

Requirements

  • 1-2 years applicable experience required
  • Ability to draw by hand and digitally is required
  • Must have strong, elevated color sense
  • Must be highly adaptable and a great problem solver
  • Ability to improve skill set by listening/responding to constructive critique
  • Must have experience with Adobe CC Suite (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator & Bridge) and Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience in Kaledo or other textile design software preferred
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Must be very organized and able to create new processes when necessary
  • Good communication skills required
