About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and develop scalable, resilient, and secure services, prototypes, proofs of concept, and production-ready features
- Lead small to medium engineering teams through designing, building, testing, and delivering system components and services
- Model coding standards, conduct code reviews, and champion clean, maintainable design principles
- Identify and drive modernization and technical improvements, including greenfield initiatives
- Collaborate with architects and product owners on technical direction, roadmaps, and long-term engineering strategy
- Mentor junior developers and SDETs through pairing, feedback, and knowledge-sharing
- Lead automation and process-streamlining efforts
- Share technical insights and communicate complex concepts to technical stakeholders
- Apply secure coding practices and resolve vulnerabilities using static analysis tools
- Contribute across the full SDLC, including analysis, design, coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and operational hand-off
- Build and maintain data models, database scripts, and migrations for large datasets and analytics workflows
- Shape engineering direction, patterns, and best practices across BECU
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, analysts, and cross-functional technical partners
- Support member-first digital experiences and BECU’s mission to improve members’ financial well-being
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum five years of experience designing software and writing production code in a team environment
- Regular use of static code analysis tools to identify and correct secure coding flaws
- Ability to deliver highly scalable solutions in multiple programming languages and technical environments across the full product lifecycle
- Expertise with .NET, C#, Node.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, or Python
- System administration and automation with PowerShell or Bash
- Knowledge of open-source technologies and libraries
- Experience with public cloud technologies including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
- Deep experience in server-side web development, modern client-side web development, REST/web services, large-scale data analytics with machine learning frameworks, networking, or service mesh
- Expertise in SOLID design principles, object-oriented programming and design
- Experience with SOA patterns and distributed systems design
- Expertise with CI/CD systems such as Azure DevOps Services, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or TeamCity
- Proficiency building deployment pipelines in YAML
- Deep expertise in test-driven development concepts, methods, and tools
- Experience with unit, integration, or performance/load testing
- Experience using Git, including code reviews, pull requests, and Git Flow or trunk-based development
- Experience presenting to technically adept audiences
- Experience with SQL, large datasets, data warehousing, sophisticated ETL processes, and analytics engines
- Ability to stay current with emerging technologies through work or continuing education
- Experience leading and collaborating within teams through all aspects of the SDLC
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Full-time hours required
- Preferred: knowledge of cloud-hosted SQL data stores and NoSQL systems
- Preferred: full-stack development across front-end and back-end technologies
- Preferred: .NET, C#, ASP.NET, MVC, and .NET Core web and service development
- Preferred: .NET and Java Spring Boot service/API development
- Preferred: mobile technologies including Angular, React Native, Flutter, Kotlin, and Java for Android
- Preferred: full-stack senior development across modern UI frameworks, APIs, and database systems
