About the role
- Lead the multi-site Forming Systems Division engineering department.
- Participate in development of standard engineering design standards/best practices and ensure consistent implementation through wet cast product lines
- Provide design oversight to minimize product liability exposure.
- Develop and provide directions for on time schedules for engineering department.
- Ensure timely and effective communication with all functional areas is provided to avoid work stoppages, rework, delayed shipments or redundancy of efforts.
- Provide engineering support to all departments, ensuring partnership in troubleshooting issues and identifying solutions.
- Partner with cross functional teams and leaders to drive continuous improvement across the division.
- Coordinate specifications and delivery requirements for key purchased parts components.
- Monitor daily/weekly engineering progress and relay pertinent information to Operations leaders.
- Establish thoughtful resource plans to ensure the engineering department is staffed to support the business; when necessary, hire and train new team members.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to each member of the Engineering team.
- Evaluate product cost reduction measures and implement design changes.
- Use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Word, and MS Excel software effectively.
- Travel to other team locations to assure alignment and team cohesion.
- Travel to customer sites for customer visits and warranty issues as they arise.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required
- Applicable industry experience of 10 or more years required
- Minimum of 3 years direct leadership experience required
- Thorough understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning, and tolerances
- Mechanical power relationships, such as, horsepower, torque, and speed
- Strength of materials and structural analysis
- Manufacturing processes
- Training and/or experience in using AutoCAD or similar CAD software
- Training and/or experience in using SolidWorks or similar 3-D modeling software
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt to shifting priorities
