About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle lighting and rendering of CG shots and images
  • Create and modify lighting scenes in Katana
  • Set up AOVs in RenderMan
  • Ensure continuity between shots within a sequence
  • Work with supervisors and leads to achieve the correct look in the composite
  • Composite shots to achieve the final look in Nuke
  • Project matte paintings onto cards or geometry in Nuke
  • Work with the matte painting supervisor and understand what the DMP (Digital Matte Painting) department produces and how to use it
  • Optimize RenderMan render settings to achieve the cleanest and fastest output on the render farm
  • Troubleshoot Katana files for technical issues
  • Communicate issues and raise blockers to the lead or supervisor for timely resolution
  • Participate in reviews requested by the Supervisor and Director, demonstrating analytical and proactive thinking
  • Check the quality of your render layers to ensure correct output for compositing
  • Maintain the production schedule and shot quotas provided by the production coordinator using the Shotgun dashboard
  • Organize work and prepare dailies for review
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and a collaborative, supportive approach when working with team members
  • Mentor and provide support to junior artists, offering guidance and instruction

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience as a 3D lighting artist in a film/TV animation or visual effects production environment (preferably on a feature film)
  • Strong knowledge of RenderMan, 3Delight, or V-Ray
  • Strong knowledge of Foundry Katana
  • Strong knowledge of Foundry Nuke
  • Able to write basic Python scripts to automate simple tasks
  • Detail-oriented with a solid understanding of how light behaves in the real world
  • Photography skills are a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or a related CGI discipline is a plus
