About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Combine multiple layers of animation, visual effects, lighting passes, and background elements to create a cohesive image.
  • Balance color, light, and depth to ensure visual consistency across shots and sequences.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues such as edge inconsistencies, motion blur, and artifact cleanup.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Lighting, FX, and Rendering to identify and resolve shot-specific challenges.
  • Use compositing software to add depth, atmosphere, and enhancements such as lens effects, color grading, and motion blur.
  • Make creative adjustments to ensure the director’s vision is realized in every shot.
  • Work closely with the Compositing Supervisor and other team members to align with artistic direction and technical standards.
  • Provide feedback to upstream departments (e.g., Modeling, Lighting, FX) to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Organize and manage all compositing assets, including file-naming conventions and proper archiving.
  • Maintain high standards for file organization and version control.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Over 5 years of experience as a Compositing Artist in the animation industry, ideally on fully animated or hybrid feature films.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, Houdini).
  • Experience using Katana, including working with scene files/models within a production pipeline.
  • Strong understanding of color theory, composition, and principles of cinematography.
  • In-depth knowledge of shading/rendering systems (e.g., RenderMan, Arnold).
  • Familiarity with compositing software (e.g., Nuke).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A passion for storytelling and a strong artistic sensibility.
  • Ability to mentor and support junior compositing artists and other team members, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
