About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Combine multiple layers of animation, visual effects, lighting passes, and background elements to create a cohesive image.
- Balance color, light, and depth to ensure visual consistency across shots and sequences.
- Troubleshoot technical issues such as edge inconsistencies, motion blur, and artifact cleanup.
- Collaborate with departments such as Lighting, FX, and Rendering to identify and resolve shot-specific challenges.
- Use compositing software to add depth, atmosphere, and enhancements such as lens effects, color grading, and motion blur.
- Make creative adjustments to ensure the director’s vision is realized in every shot.
- Work closely with the Compositing Supervisor and other team members to align with artistic direction and technical standards.
- Provide feedback to upstream departments (e.g., Modeling, Lighting, FX) to improve workflow efficiency.
- Organize and manage all compositing assets, including file-naming conventions and proper archiving.
- Maintain high standards for file organization and version control.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Over 5 years of experience as a Compositing Artist in the animation industry, ideally on fully animated or hybrid feature films.
- Proficiency with industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, Houdini).
- Experience using Katana, including working with scene files/models within a production pipeline.
- Strong understanding of color theory, composition, and principles of cinematography.
- In-depth knowledge of shading/rendering systems (e.g., RenderMan, Arnold).
- Familiarity with compositing software (e.g., Nuke).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A passion for storytelling and a strong artistic sensibility.
- Ability to mentor and support junior compositing artists and other team members, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Comp & perks- Pay Range: $1,400 - $1,700 CAD per week
