About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Run insurance eligibility and benefits checks to determine amounts due
- Collect patient payments and meet collection targets
- Check patients in and out and schedule appointments
- Conduct pre-registration and registration processes
- Obtain authorizations, submit notifications, and verify authorizations for services
- Verify patient demographics and accurately enter information into the A/D/T system
- Obtain required insurance information, consents, and documentation
- Provide financial counseling to patients and families when appropriate
- Assist patients with Medicaid and financial assistance program applications
- Liaise with patients, billing departments, vendors, physician offices, and payors
- Communicate with physicians, clinical and hospital staff, nursing, and Health Information Management Services
- Complete daily assignments and work lists, maintain productivity logs, and enter information accurately
- Perform additional patient and financial services tasks, including transporting patients, precepting new hires, recapping or posting daily deposits
- Work independently under regular supervision in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Resolve patient concerns and outstanding account issues while supporting reimbursement and service excellence
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Knowledge of patient financial services, financial or collecting services, or insurance industry processes normally acquired over one or more years of work experience
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and work independently
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong knowledge of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
- Ability to retain changing payor information and knowledge
- Ability to make independent decisions and use sound judgment
- Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check, including employment, criminal, and education checks
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire only for employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital
- Previous cash collections experience preferred
- Experience with Banner systems and processes preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
