About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide comprehensive emergent and critical care to critically ill or injured patients before and during transport
  • Stabilize chronically and acutely ill or injured patients for hospital transport
  • Provide care in ground ambulances and other transport modalities when air transport is not possible
  • Independently assess patients, administer medications and perform procedures
  • Collaborate with health team members and healthcare teams at other facilities to ensure continuity of care
  • Communicate with hospitals, EMS, police and fire departments, patients, families and external contacts
  • Complete annual education requirements
  • Perform advanced procedures including chest tubes, central lines, I/O placement, cricothyrotomy and intubation
  • Operate assigned vehicles and provide safe, reliable and timely transport when applicable
  • Develop safe transport solutions under operational constraints
  • Synthesize and prioritize information from multiple sources to support patients and families

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current, valid RN license in the state of hire and compact status for any other states the program serves
  • ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications required upon hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) card required before assuming clinical responsibilities
  • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) required within 30 months of hire if hired on or before 10/9/25, or within 24 months if hired after 10/9/25
  • Minimum of three years of Critical Care and/or Emergency Department experience
  • Maintain flight duty weight of less than 225 pounds in plain clothes
  • Training and competency in advanced procedures including central line placement, advanced airway, chest tube placement, arterial lines and umbilical lines before assuming clinical responsibilities
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and autonomous practice through testing during the interview and orientation process
  • Ability to perform physical requirements in confined spaces and potentially adverse environmental conditions
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Rotor wing, fixed wing or ground critical care transport experience desired
  • Colorado employees only: valid driver’s license on date of hire and thereafter
