About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
- Report patient conditions that may indicate changes to clinicians
- Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
- Serve as a chaperone as needed and follow universal blood and body fluid precautions and PPE requirements
- Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
- Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, and communicating test results
- Provide clerical support by maintaining medical records and completing billing information accurately and promptly
- Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; follow sterilization procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs
- Order supplies and stock patient care areas
- Complete medication-related tasks, including handling expired medications, equipment, and recalls
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers and support patients, families, clinicians, and staff
- Complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training
- Work under the direct supervision of providers and interact with multidisciplinary staff and external healthcare contacts
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
- Active Medical Assistant Certification required
- Certification or additional training must meet Meaningful Use requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Active certification such as RMA with current AMT membership, CMA with current AAMA membership, CCMA with current NHA membership, or NCMA with current NCCT membership
- Strong computer skills, including ability to work with medical software
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and in an organized manner
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit required for specified behavioral health settings
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred
- Flexibility to assist other specialty clinics
- Must complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training as directed
