About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare patients for exams and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores
  • Report patient conditions that may indicate changes to clinicians
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including blood pressure, respiration and pulse documentation, temperature checks, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and EKGs
  • Chaperone examinations as needed and use universal precautions and personal protective equipment
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process
  • Coordinate patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, and communicating test results
  • Support clinicians with optimal patient care and medication administration as directed
  • Provide clerical support, maintain complete medical records, and provide accurate billing information
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; follow sterilization procedures and OSHA guidelines
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas
  • Manage medication-related tasks, including expired medications, equipment, and recalls
  • Complete onboarding, orientation, and simulation training as required
  • Interact with providers, staff, physicians, patients, families, external contacts, and physician offices to clarify and communicate patient information

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification required
  • Certification or additional training must meet Meaningful Use requirements
  • BLS certification required
  • Active certification such as RMA with current AMT membership, CMA with current AAMA membership, CCMA with current NHA membership, or NCMA with current NCCT membership
  • Strong computer skills, including ability to use medical software
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively and in an organized manner
  • Employees in specified Arizona behavioral-health settings must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and sign an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred
