About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Scheduling surgical, cardiovascular or obstetrical procedures using a computerized scheduling system
  • Entering patient charges, orders, and other pertinent information into the system
  • Compiling and reporting statistical information to management
  • Acting as an office liaison for department staff, physicians, and patient families
  • Coordinating case times for procedures in the scheduling system
  • Verifying and reviewing physician privilege status prior to scheduling
  • Ordering previous medical records when necessary
  • Conducting charge management audits for assigned area
  • Reconciles charge packet information with audits and identifies missed or incorrect charges
  • Answering phones, relaying messages, greeting and directing patients and visitors, and providing information about policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • 2 years of medical clerical experience; preferably in a hospital central scheduling or physician office scheduling setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required
  • Knowledge of payor contract terms and processes
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Effective teamworking skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to use computerized scheduling systems
  • Ability to maintain accurate statistical records, gather data, and produce reports
