About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plays a vital role as part of the surgical team, working closely alongside surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in the operating room
- Assists directly during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging surgical instruments, and ensuring a sterile environment is maintained
- Performs tasks such as passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating equipment during surgery
- Participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges
- Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate
- Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge and current basic life support certification
- Must be registered with State Regulatory Agency where applicable
- Certified as a surgical technologist OR two to three years of experience in a surgical technologist role
- Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations
- Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient
- Proficiency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties
