About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manages and provides leadership on all activities of a team (shift) of Spray Dry production personnel
  • Advises, controls, and supports operations to guarantee compliance with the Production Schedule, Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, Regulatory Laws, and all company policies, and procedures
  • Has primary responsibility for ensuring safe, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective production of material in the plant
  • Ensures compliance to the production schedule at all times
  • Determines efficient use of personnel, equipment, and supplies to achieve schedule
  • Works with quality assurance to follow all food safety policies
  • Monitors all production operations on a regular basis
  • Takes corrective action when deviations from specifications are apparent; reports problems and corrective actions to operations staff in a timely manner
  • Observes production processes for compliance with written SOPs
  • Communicates shift activities to Production Manager daily
  • Continuously audits personnel for compliance with policies and procedures
  • Maintains contact with Production Manager to plan staffing requirements
  • Practices good communication skills and promotes team-based decision making whenever possible
  • Informs Maintenance Supervisor and Production Manager when major equipment repairs or supplies are needed
  • Prepares and submits work orders in a timely manner
  • Participates in team meetings; attends training programs as advised by Management Staff
  • Provides coaching and advisory support to team meetings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school education is required and strong math, computer literacy, verbal and oral communication skills
  • Some college coursework is preferable
  • Three to five years of supervisory or group leader experience in a food plant environment is required
  • The candidate must possess the skills needed to plan, organize, direct and motivate people to ensure potential for further advancement through professional development
  • The position requires sufficient time to accomplish the tasks leading to long days, weekends, and holiday work schedules
  • The ability to manage change and interruption is paramount to be a successful Shift Supervisor
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry-out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Must be able to work independently to organize tasks and manage the workload
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
  • Attain a second-class boiler license
