About the role

  • Assist middle market and Fortune 500 clients with evaluating and resolving state and local income tax issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable state tax laws.
  • Assist with SALT compliance quality control reviews and perform research on relevant state tax law; Assist clients with state and local tax audit disputes.
  • Draft technical memoranda regarding state and local tax issues.
  • Interact and manage multiple clients in a deadline-oriented environment while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintain internal relationships with colleagues, other service lines and engagement/project teams.
  • Develop and retain technical tax expertise.
  • Proactively identify and communicate issues as they arise.
  • Maintain a positive and “team player” attitude.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to the firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs.
  • Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, math, finance, business, economics, or a related field of study.
  • Master’s Degree in Taxation, or JD / LL.M preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential preferred. (If not certified, candidates must meet educational requirements to obtain license upon hire in state of employment)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience with a law firm or public accounting firm, or analogous industry or public sector / tax agency experience focused on SALT income tax matters.
  • Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of legal research and writing, time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving.
  • Strong leadership, project management, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience in serving mid-market clients preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel, as needed.
