About the role
- Assist middle market and Fortune 500 clients with evaluating and resolving state and local income tax issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable state tax laws.
- Assist with SALT compliance quality control reviews and perform research on relevant state tax law; Assist clients with state and local tax audit disputes.
- Draft technical memoranda regarding state and local tax issues.
- Interact and manage multiple clients in a deadline-oriented environment while maintaining exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Maintain internal relationships with colleagues, other service lines and engagement/project teams.
- Develop and retain technical tax expertise.
- Proactively identify and communicate issues as they arise.
- Maintain a positive and “team player” attitude.
- Become familiar with and adhere to the firm’s policies and procedures.
- Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs.
- Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, math, finance, business, economics, or a related field of study.
- Master’s Degree in Taxation, or JD / LL.M preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential preferred. (If not certified, candidates must meet educational requirements to obtain license upon hire in state of employment)
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience with a law firm or public accounting firm, or analogous industry or public sector / tax agency experience focused on SALT income tax matters.
- Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues highly preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of legal research and writing, time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving.
- Strong leadership, project management, organizational and analytical skills.
- Experience in serving mid-market clients preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to travel, as needed.
