About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the monthly close for multiple clients
Generate timely, accurate monthly financial statements
Review and guide the offshore team's work product
Perform reconciliations, accruals, and deferred journal entries
Update financial models and cash forecasts with actuals
Manage client budgets
Engage in recurring client calls and respond directly to founder requests
Translate financial results into actionable information for non-finance founders
Partner with Controllers on strategic and advisory work
Own accounting operations outcomes across AR, AP, payroll and benefit clearing account reconciliations, insurance audits and renewals, inventory and landed costs, and sales tax management and compliance
Coordinate tax and compliance activities with external partners, including federal and state income tax returns, annual state filings, franchise taxes, local business registrations, sales and use tax, R&D tax credits, W-9s, and 1099s
Directly lead the offshore accounting team by assigning work, reviewing output, and developing team capability

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years managing or reviewing the work of other accountants
Experience serving multiple clients or entities at once; public accounting, outsourced accounting, or a multi-entity corporate role
Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; financial statement presentation, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, prepaid and accrued expenses, fixed assets
Hands-on ownership of a full-cycle monthly close
Fluency in QuickBooks Online or Xero
Strong Google Sheets skills, including pivot tables, SUMIFS, and model maintenance
Bachelor's degree, accounting or finance concentration preferred
Comfortable leading a client call without a Controller in the room
Strongly preferred CPA, or CPA-eligible and pursuing it
Big 4 or national public accounting background strongly preferred
Startup or VC-backed client experience strongly preferred
Inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting exposure strongly preferred
Equity accounting exposure strongly preferred
Ability to learn new systems quickly when a client uses unfamiliar software
