About the role

  • Create automated workflows in partnership with product/engineering, and help train AI systems and templates on best practices.
  • Identify and correct misleading, inconsistent or unclear data framing, and build guardrails to reduce error rates in automated generation.
  • Train reporters on querying datasets and using AI tools, and provide feedback on local data stories and graphics.
  • Generate ideas and produce centralized, data-driven stories for distribution across markets.
  • Track usage and document edge cases unique to small markets.
  • Recommend product and editorial adjustments to Hub Director.
  • Prototype new storytelling formats.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of implementing new workflows at scale and common pitfalls.
  • Firsthand experience in local news, with strong editorial judgment about what data is meaningful at the community level and how to present it responsibly.
  • Knowledge of how AI can be utilized to automate smart workflows.
  • Expert collaborator with comfort leading conversations across editorial and product.
  • Ability to spot friction points early and proactively pursue solutions.
  • Clear communicator who can translate complex methodology simply.
  • Track record of innovation.
