- Cover the San Diego, California area as part of Axios Local, creating a meaningful local presence.
- Author a daily Axios newsletter that features insights and scoops for the San Diego audience.
- Connect the dots between local, national, and global developments to make readers aware of narratives shaping their lives.
- Create stories across multiple platforms, including newsletter, web and social media.
- Help build Axios Local and shape how the product evolves.
Requirements
- Authoring a daily Axios newsletter that features insights and scoops that matter most to the San Diego audience
- A command of the local market along with the sourcing necessary to illuminate busy readers about the community where they live
- Helping build Axios Local and shape how the product evolves
- Ability to create stories across multiple platforms, including newsletter, web and social media
- Experience covering news in San Diego
- Excellent sources and ability to create new ones
- Strong reporting skills and comfort working in a fast-paced news environment and on deadline
- Ability to decipher data, break news and create conceptual scoops
- Deep knowledge of the local market, including politics, business, and/or social issues
- Background in understanding local and national news coverage more broadly
- A belief in and dedication to writing in Smart Brevity
