About the role
- Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences/biotech sector, with emphasis on large molecules
- Conduct freedom-to-operate (FTO) and patentability analyses to support R&D and product development
- Assist with IP portfolio strategy and competitive landscape reviews
- Collaborate with scientific and business teams to align patent protection with innovation and commercialization goals
- Support due diligence and licensing matters, including technology-transfer and collaboration agreements
- Monitor global patent filings and industry trends in life sciences and adjacent tech/software areas
- Handle patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analyses, and portfolio management while providing technology fluency
Requirements
- JD with active U.S. bar membership in good standing
- Registration to practice before the USPTO
- 3–7 years of experience in patent law (minimum 3 years)
- Significant life sciences/biotech background; large molecule experience required
- Comfort with technology-driven workflows and ability to engage with software/tech-related IP issues
- Strong drafting, communication, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage tasks independently
- Advanced degree in biology, biochemistry, or related life sciences field (preferred)
- Exposure to cross-disciplinary IP issues (software, data, or digital health) (preferred)
- Prior in-house or law firm experience supporting biotech, pharma, or life sciences companies (preferred)
- Employment may be contingent on background check, proof of identity, and legal authorization to work
